Some of the reasons that women stay in abusive relationships are fear of being unable to support themselves and their children, and not knowing what resources are available. Immigrant women especially may not know their rights and fear being deported or having their children taken from them. Informing yourself about what to reasonably expect is the first step in taking control and getting your life back on track.

Family Law Information Centre

The Family Law Information Centre provides free or sliding scale legal advice, meditation, support and referral.

Ontario Legal Aid Plan

Legal aid is available to low income individuals and disadvantaged communities for a variety of legal problems. You may need a lawyer to go to court with you, or just some advice or assistance with court documents.
